Middle Technical University in a Glance

Middle Technical University (MTU) is dedicated to technical education, which is a unique path in higher education directly linked to societal progress and development. It quickly responds to the need for multi-level manpower training, qualifying individuals to keep up with rapid technological advancements across various scientific fields and applications that benefit the community.

MTU was established in 2014 as a result of splitting what was formerly known as the Foundation of Technical Education (FTE) into four technical universities: Middle, Northern, Al-Furat Al-Awsat, and Southern Technical Universities.

MTU carries the legacy of Iraq's first-ever university, Al-Hikma University, established in 1956. It comprises twelve technical institutes and colleges in Baghdad and five other sites: Kut, Swaira, Baquba, Anbar, and Balad.

Academic Levels

  • Technical Institutes: Two years after high school (12 institutes).
  • Technical Colleges: Four years after high school (5 colleges).
  • Postgraduate: Offers technical Master, technical PhD, and technical high diploma.

Main Majors and Departments

The university offers five main majors: engineering, health and medical sciences, administrative sciences, applied sciences, and agriculture. These are further distributed as follows:

  • 29 departments in technical colleges: 13 engineering, 7 health and medical, 6 administrative, and 3 applied sciences.
  • 62 departments in technical institutes distributed as: 26 engineering, 17 health and medical, 11 administrative, 2 agricultural, and 6 applied arts.
